Initial situation

As Yamaha presented its company in the World Wide Web for the first time, only isolated, not harmonized internet presences existed in the sales areas. The presences were inconsistent with respect to customer addressing, design, and product presentation. Since this was unacceptable, the pages required restructuring.

Evaluation

After a phase of thorough evaluation, the company decided to restructure their internet activities in Europe using Infopark’s CMS. The target was to centralize and to professionalize particular sections of the Hamburg Holding: Strategy, Finance, Development, Adimistration, Human Resources. The reasons for choosing to use Infopark’s CMS were:

  • its efficiency
  • multi-language support
  • its simplicity
  • short implementation times
  • user-friendliness of the system

Fiona conquers Europe

In June 2001, Yamaha made the decision in favour of Infopark’s CMS. Only half a year later, in December 2001, the English-language main web presence went online. Less than three months later the pages for France, Austria, Switzerland, Great Britain, Italy, and Spain went online. In October 2002, the pages for Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Belgium, and The Netherlands went online as well. The original goals were reached. Additionally, a Polish site was created in 2004. In 2005, a Slovenian, an Hungarian, and a Czech site followed. Another year later, the first Russian site was introduced. Thus, only five years after Infopark’s CMS was introduced, 17 different regional sites with over 50,000 pages plus approximately 20 other specialized sites, micro sites, and exhibition sites went online.

As compared to 2001, by 2005, four years after Infopark’s CMS was introduced, Yamaha Europe has halved its annual expenses for administration, the development of further pages, and the service support.
