Infopark CMS Fiona ensures that the Flughafen München GmbH (FMG) presents itself to employees, passengers, and business partners in a unique layout. |

With approximately 29 million passengers per year, Munich Airport is Germany’s second largest airport. Two decisive criteria for choosing Infopark’s Content Management System (CMS) were its ability to integrate with the existing IT structures of the airport corporation and the user friendliness of the system.
To date, FMG has realized four large projects by means of the solutions provided by Infopark:
- Corporate Internet presence of the Munich Airport and its subsidiaries
- Intranet: “DELFIN” - The electronic airport information network
- Information desks in Terminal 2
- Information desks in the visitor’s center (including an airport exhibition area, among other things)
The four CMS projects are deeply interconnected, meaning that all information is acquired only once by 170 editors working in non-central specialist departments. All information is edited and released in the central editorial office.
Internet
The Internet presence of Munich Airport is used by 820,000 visitors per month. 17 subsidiary presences exist. In another five presences such as the Air Traffic Initiative (“Initiative Luftverkehr”), FMG operates as a service provider.
Intranet
The “DELFIN” Intranet serves as the internal information platform for the FMG and its subsidiaries. Up to 250,000 visits per month prove its great popularity. “All information can be accessed with ease and are fetched actively on demand instead of pouring them out on everyone”, Gerda Kettl, Manager Public Relations - New Media, says. For “DELFIN”, the CMS was connected to the SAP R/3 system of the FMG. The content is exported at regular intervals. Additionally, documents are provided with design, layout, and meta elements.
In the intranet, Infopark CMS Fiona integrates the following functions (among others):
- Document Management for maintaining publications, documents, and attributes in a hierarchical tree structure
- Workflow Management for passing edited content to the quality assurance staff
- User and access permission management for the editorial staff
- Import interface for uploading external documents such as PDF, Word, Excel files, etc.
- Fully automatic link management
- Scripting interface for batch processing
Information desks
Furthermore, in Terminal 2 as well as in the visitor center, information desks were realized with Infopark’s CMS. On these touch screen applications interesting information about the airport, air traffic (flight schedules, for example), and the shops are made available to the visitors. In 2008, Munich Airport has again received the “World Airport Award” for being the best European airport. These comfortable self-service terminals presumably have had their share in being awarded for the fourth time in sequence. Among other things, the quality of service, the range of services, and the shopping and entertainment offerings have been rated.
Gerda Kettl shows her contentment: “For passengers and business partners, Infopark CMS Fiona is the prime source of information. Using this CMS lowers our expenses and helps to keep our staff informed. Another advantage is that the strain on our telephone exchange and information office is relieved.
