The MPG is an independent, non-profit research organisation. The research institutes of the Max Planck Society perform basic research in the interest of the general public in the natural sciences, life sciences, social sciences, and the humanities.
Presently the Society is maintaining 80 institutes of research, in which more than 12.000 employees as well as 10.000 doctorands, postgraduates, guest scientists, and student assistants are operating. The independent and nonprofit institutes do basic research at humanities, natural, and biological sciences, especially at new and future-oriented fields of research.
Compared to classic websites, www.mpg.de is a top-quality and independent medium for first-hand knowledge. Users access much more contents, which is updated constantly and clearly arranged. Moreover, structuring the content into fields of research extends the access to institutes, persons, and documents. The website is a new portal of knowledge, that displays the variety of topics of the Max Planck Society and its institutes, as well as reports current work results of scientists at the institutes.
Since the first website of Max Planck Society was produced by the CMS of Infopark in 2003, the web presence has been extended continuously. The monthly number of visitors has tripled from 300.000 to over a million. At present, the CMS administrates and publishes data of more than 20 GB. Even print publications are supplied with data from Infopark CMS Fiona. The yearly guide of Max Planck Societies is published directly out of the Content Management System. It contains more than 600 pages, in which all institutes and current projects are presented.
Infopark CMS Fiona makes sure, that the website of Max Planck Society comes up to the following standards:
