The BADV services approx. 300 federal authorities. It is responsible for determining and paying out payments and child benefits as well as fringe benefits such as financial aids and travel expenses. All data is processed, computer-assisted, in Bonn. Data is also acquired and preprocessed in Berlin and Frankfurt and at other authority locations.

The internet presence of the BADV makes it possible for visitors to get informed about all the available services, also outside normal trading hours. As a special feature, the complete web presence of the BADV is barrier-free. This means that the internet offers can be fully used by all visitors, independently of their technical and physical possibilities. This includes people with and without disabilities as well as users with technically restricted equipment (such as a text browser) or age-related disabilities such as weak sight. Another special accessibility feature are the access keys allowing users to navigate and view the contents of the website by means of normal keyboard input. This input method is essential for people who do not have a mouse or any other pointing device. It also ensures that vision-impaired uses can also access the content normally only available to mouse users.
