Infopark has been awarded the tender for the new content management system (CMS) of the European University Viadrina. Infopark CMS Fiona is now being used campus wide to create, manage and maintain websites. |

The University
Founded in 1991, the European University Viadrina has become a respected member among the German and European Universities. The Viadrina is conforming with European standards and has a strong international focus with fourty percent foreign students from a total of seventy five nations.
Initial state of affairs and selection of the CMS
The objective of the implementation of Infopark CMS Fiona for the management and maintenance of the web presence was the substitution of the existing system to improve usability for editors and simplify the administration. In order to deliver the best possible results editors were interviewed to determine the points of discontent with the old system. This allowed Infopark to determine optimal improvements of the identified processes and problems. Consequently solutions to overcome these shortcomings have been developed and implemented.
The administration of the University has used the opportunity to effectively implement a unified corporate design throughout all parts of the organization including web, print and other publications. The implementation of this unified corporate design has only been possible with the implementation of the new CMS.
Infopark CMS Fiona has convinced the Viadrina with flexibility, the means to individually adjust the design of the CMS to suit different types of users, as well as improved user friendliness and simplifying data migration while retaining a highly scalable system.
The Viadrina has based its decision on the multitude of references that Infopark has accumulated in the educational sector. Especially the consulting services have met the expectations of the Viadrina.
Use of Infopark CMS Fiona
The University chose a campus wide implementation of the Infopark solution. The central website of the Viadrina and related institutions and organizations are now created, managed and maintained with Infopark CMS Fiona.
A dedicated login area has been created for university internal documents. The system automatically recognizes if users access the site from University internal IP-addresses and adjusts access permissions accordingly so that users do not have to authenticate when accessing protected documents directly.
A concept for editing documents in multiple languages has been developed and implemented based on the stipulations and requirements of the university. An assistant in the CMS indicates whether a document is available in additional languages as well and enables the user to select more languages. Consequently the assistant will automatically generate the new document.
The press office is working with a specially developed assistant that simplifies and supports the maintenance of all documents and news. The preview and the ability to directly edit content in the preview improves usability and efficiency for editors.
Research Data Base with CMS Fiona
The request to integrate a self generated research data base with CMS Fiona was born in 2008.
Infopark’s Consultants assisted the university by developing the search function. The project was finished in April 2009. As a special feature of Fiona, mirror objects are used: The data/websites about the research projects and publications are administered by the chairs and then reflected into the central structure.
With this research data base, the European University Viadrina gives an insight and an overview about research. There you can find information about current academic publications, dissertation intentions and the various research projects at university.
Inside the research data base, there is the opportunity to search after projects and publications - besides a general search option.
