On the EU Council Presidency

On a half-year cycle, the Council Presidency of the European Union is taken on by another member state. On January 1, 2008, Slovenia assumed the EU Council Presidency until June 30, 2008. Slovenia was the first of the twelve countries that joined the EU from 2004 to 2007 to assume the EU Council Presidency.

The Website

The Slovenian EU Council Presidency positively reflects on the realization of the internet presence www.eu2008.si: In the first six months of the year 2008 the website successfully informed its visitors about current issues in the EU. The site was built with Infopark CMS Fiona and included several Web 2.0 applications.

The portal offered its 765,000 visitors a large amount of information about politicians, the European Union, and the EU Council Presidency. Thus, it actively helped to inform the citizens. The offers were rounded off with a dedicated area for media representatives.

Integration of Web 2.0 Applications

For the ease of use, many Web 2.0 functions were added to the website of the EU Council Presidency.

This was to be seen in multi-language content available in English, French, and Slovenia, and in a variety of different media such as images, audio files, and videos. Particularly outstanding is the dynamic content that was integrated into the portal, for example:

  • Podcasts
  • RSS-Feed
  • Live streams of the sittings by means of a player integrated into the website
  • Individually adapted calendar

Realization

The website was realized by Babiel GmbH. Slovenia was the fourth EU Council Presidency that decided in favour of Infopark CMS Fiona for implementing their website.
