FU Berlin: A New Face
Freie Universität Berlin presents its new website at www.fu-berlin.de.
It is one of Germany’s biggest universities and has several hundred thousand page impressions per day.
A Flexible Layout and Added Conent
To help visitors find their way around the website, a target-group oriented navigation was set up on the right hand side of the page. New information was added to the main navigation and on top of the homepage the most popular pages are linked. A new international site bundles the multiple international activities of Freie Universität.
The layout has been reworked into a multi-column design. Online editors now have more flexible design tools at their disposal. The focus of the hompage is a “media window” with room for images and videos of everyday life on the campus.
Technical overhaul with Infopark CMS Fiona and Ruby on Rails
The technical side has been modernized as well. The content management system Infopark CMS Fiona has been updated to version 6.7.2. From now on the website is based on the web application framework Ruby on Rails. This guarantees a higher productity in implementing the website. Because changes to the website are displayed immediately, work processes are sped up and more efficient, undoubtedly the biggest advantage for online editors.
Please find more detailed information on the project in our case study.
